Project background

This project was carried out as a response to a S10 inspection. Work included construction of a formal weir in the outlet channel as a control point for the reservoir and to provide a defined top water level, construction of new stoplogs at drawdown shaft and also construction of a new culvert to allow additional capacity for flows to pass beneath the forest road and avoid water backing up into the reservoir.

During the ECI phase we assisted the client in development of final designs through practical advice and knowledge of limitations in relation to the location and construction methods. We carried out a detailed site survey, ecological inspection & vegetation clearance before setting up our site compound.

De-watering works area & construction of in-situ concrete weir. Form downstream protection slab, stone pitching & rip-rap. Form eel pass ramps over new weir. Construct stop logs. Installation of new specialist Technocover covers. Divert public footpaths & form temporary pedestrian/cycle paths & bridleways. Receive delivery of PCC units & excavate for new culvert. Prepare surfaces & lift, position & connect culvert sections. Prepare foundations for retaining walls. Install retaining wall blocks & backfill in sections. Installation of timber post & rail fence. Re-profile & tie in forest track.

In order to minimise disruption to the public and forestry tree felling teams, we accelerated our work programme and completed the project ahead of programme ensuring that the access road re-opened ahead of deadline. Work carried out under NEC3 Option C completed within budget.
